According to The Popcorn Board—a non-profit check-off organization funded by U.S. popcorn processors to raise awareness of popcorn—National Popcorn Day is celebrated at the end of January.

There is debate about the exact date of the day, but the majority of companies celebrate it on January 19. The origins of the day itself are unknown, according to The Popcorn Board.

To celebrate National Popcorn Day, Showcase Cinemas is giving away free popcorn to new and current Starpass loyalty members who purchase a movie ticket on that day. If you’re a movie fan then it’s also worth knowing that the day coincides with the releases of both Bad Boys for Life and Dolittle.

“Popcorn and movie-going literally go hand in hand, so we can think of no better way to celebrate National Popcorn Day than to give away free popcorn,” said Mark Malinowski, vice president of global marketing for Showcase Cinemas. “Last year we gave away thousands of bags of popcorn to our Starpass loyalty members and we are hoping to give away even more this year.”

On National Popcorn Day, Starpass members will receive a free regular popcorn with any ticket purchase. The Starpass loyalty program is free to join and free to use. Starpass enables guests to earn a 10 percent reward for every dollar spent and provides flexible options to redeem rewards for a variety of purchases including tickets, concessions and at cinema restaurants and in-seat dining.

In celebration of National Popcorn Day, the popcorn brand is offering one free small bag of Better Butter Popcorn between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. local time, all weekend.

The brand is giving away a year’s supply of free popcorn ($419 value) to one lucky winner. According to the company, any online purchase on National Popcorn Day will enter people to win a 12 month supply of Epic’s specialty subscription boxes from their “Let’s Celebrate” Collection.

The winner will be announced Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. CST on Epic’s Facebook and Instagram.

Garret Popcorn

All locations—excluding Chicago and Chicagoland area—are allowing popcorn lovers to get a small bag of “any signature recipe” for just $1. This includes the original Chicago Style Garret Mix.

Customers need to bag the deal between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. local time to have a pop at getting a bargain. Only one bag is allowed per customer.

Garrett Popcorn Shops offer handcrafted, artisanal popcorn in nine countries and on the garrettpopcorn.com website, according to its website. Founded in 1949, the company has established itself with Sweet and Savory confectionery flavors, including the combination of its CaramelCrisp and CheeseCorn recipes known as the Garrett Mix.

The popcorn brand is giving one lucky winner the chance to receive Popcornopolis gourmet popcorn every month for one year. As part of its “National Popcorn Day Sweepstakes,” customers can pop onto the sweepstakes website and enter their information to be in with a chance.

The competition will end by 2:59 p.m. PST, January 24, 2020. To be eligible to win, entrants must also follow Popcornopolis on Instagram. The official rules for the competition can be read on the website.
