Say, what’s that Hydro Flask behind Timothée Chalamet in “Little Women”?

The answer is a movie production gaffe that’s just been discovered — an everyday item mistakenly left in the background of a period piece, like that infamous Starbucks cup left in “Game of Thrones.”

Fans have called out a “Little Women” scene featuring an insulated tumbler and a plastic Poland Spring water bottle sitting inconspicuously behind Chalamet’s Theodore “Laurie” Laurence in director Greta Gerwig’s adaptation. Jane Austen’s novel was published in the pre-tumbler year of 1868, so clearly that’s not meant to be there. For the record, Poland Spring was distributed in 1859, but definitely not in plastic bottles.

These movie gaffe discoveries are going to happen in a time of forced stay-at-home movie reviewing.

Superfan Madelyn Rancourt, who saw “Little Women” seven times in theaters, was the first to make the discovery and post a video revealing all on TikTok. “I don’t know if anybody else noticed, but there’s a Hydro Flask and, like, a Poland Spring water bottle just sort of casually sitting there,” she said in the video. “Let me know if you noticed this.”

‘Game of Thrones’ gaffe:Conleth Hill denies responsibility for coffee cup, mystery continues

If fans hadn’t noticed before, they’re certainly noticing it now. “Please, the hydroflask and water bottle. I cannot,” tweeted @Dunenation. While @northvinyls noted, “This is just like the Starbucks cup in Game of Thrones.’ “

It should be noted that the cast watched and discussed the same scene in a Vanity Fair video, “Notes on a Scene,” in December. No notes on the water bottles.

In May 2019, viewers pounced on the anachronistic Starbucks coffee cup in Episode 4 of “Game of Thrones,” which became a major thing before the water bottle that was left in the series finale.

At the time, @tomandlorenzo helpfully noted, “A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don’t know how to tune their TVs properly to make coffee cups disappear.”

On the bright side, this latest gaffe could lead to a bump in “Little Women” viewing. A worthy endeavor as it was nominated for six Oscars (including best picture) and took the award for best costumes.

Another bonus, Timothée Chalamet is always worthy of close-up inspection. (Note, you’re supposed to be looking for the water bottle.)

USA TODAY reached out to Sony Pictures for comment from the filmmakers.
